Gantt's correspondence with E. Cowles Andrus (84 items, 1945-1974) contains many notes asking Andrus' advice and opinions about cardiovascular research, and in 1966 Gantt comments that observing Andrus' work on the vagus nerve "was one of the highlights of my professional career" (May 3, 1966). Beyond their scientific interests, much of the correspondence is about Gantt's status at Johns Hopkins relative to the directorship of the Pavlovian Laboratory and the "neurocirculatory laboratory," and Gantt's dissatisfaction with administrative developments.

Correspondence with Christian Astrup (243 items, 1957-1980) begins with efforts to secure an American publisher for Astrup's The Higher Nervous Activity. In 1959, Astrup traveled to the Soviet Union and sent Gantt detailed accounts of scientific and intellectual life there. He comments on Russian psychiatry, Pavlovianism, German and Anglo-Saxon influences on Russian psychiatry, and the attitudes of Russian intellectuals toward Stalin. When Astrup came to the United States in 1960 to work with Gantt, their letters reveal political difficulties facing scientific dialogue between East and West. A letter dated March 15, 1961 reveals that Gantt rallied to Astrup's defense when the Veterans Administration discharged Astrup for his communist affiliations. After Astrup returned to Europe (Norway?), correspondence primarily concerns professional meetings, the Pavlovian Society, proposals for a prophylactic psychiatry society, and Astrup's recommendation of Gantt for the Nobel Prize.
