Martin L. Singewald

Martin L. Singewald was born in Baltimore. He received his B.E. in 1930 and his M.D. in 1938, both from the Johns Hopkins University. After his internship, residency, and service in the military, Singewald returned to Johns Hopkins in 1946 to join the staff of the hospital and the faculty of the school of medicine, where he remained until his retirement. His patients at Johns Hopkins included many medical professionals. Singewald had a great interest in the relationship of religion and faith to healing. In addition to his medical work, Singewald served as president of the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association.

Scope and Content
The Martin L. Singewald Collection consists of three boxes of cards containing data on patients. These data were used in studies of smoking in relation to cardiovascular disease.
