The Joanne Batzinger Frank Collection consists of a series of letters from Joanne Batzinger to her family during her time as a student nurse at the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing. The letters describe life in Hampton House and as a student nurse. Additionally, the letters contain a detailed account of her view of the Baltimore race riot of April 1968 which occurred following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as a description of its effect on the communities she was supposed to visit as a public health nurse. The collection is a resource for studying life as a student nurse at Johns Hopkins during the 1960s as well as examining a unique perspective on the Baltimore race riots.
