John Robert Carr was born in Durham, North Carolina, 1878. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1899, attending the University of North Carolina Medical School for one year (1899-1900). He completed medical school at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he graduated in 1904. Carr stayed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital to become the House Medical Officer from 1904-1905 and the Assistant Resident Surgeon from 1905-1906. He maintained a private practice in medicine in Philadelphia. Carr died on May 17, 1959.
