Elizabeth A. Thomas

Elizabeth A. Thomas was born in Akron, Ohio. She received her nursing diploma in 1908. Upon graduation she served as a head nurse on various wards at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1910, she was made an assistant superintendent of nurses and held this position until 1914. Following its opening in 1915, she was put in charge of organizing and administering nursing at the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute. In 1916, she resigned to marry Frank R. Kent, a journalist for The Baltimore Sun. She was appointed instructor in the preparation of Red Cross surgical supplies in 1917. In 1925, she was invited to serve as a member for the Nurses Guild, part of the Women's Board, a subcommittee of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Association.
