Administrative/Biographical History

John Frederick Kantner was born in Somerset, Pennsylvania. He received his A.B. in 1942 from Franklin and Marshall College and his M.A. in 1947 and Ph.D. in 1953, both from the University of Michigan. Kantner first served as an assistant professor of sociology at the College of William and Mary, then held academic appointments at the University of California, Panjab University of Pakistan, and the University of Western Ontario. In 1968, he came to the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health as professor of population dynamics, eventually holding the office of chairman from 1978 to 1985. Kantner conducted studies on teen pregnancy and contraception.
