Upon Partridge's resignation in 1977, Margaret Courtney directed the program until its closure in 1979. Three classes graduated in 1977, 1978, and 1979. Students entered with at least 2 years of college and graduated with a BSN degree. The program also offered certificates for Adult and Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
Underlying much of the new program's curriculum was the desire to expand on the traditional confines of nursing functions. Health education and research skills were particularly emphasized.

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing reemerged in 1984 as a fully accredited institute, offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nursing.
