The Donald S. Coffey Collection spans his more than half-century career at the Brady Urological Institute, 30 years of which were as the Director of Research. He was a key figure in international cancer research and was a triple professor in oncology, urology and pharmacology. He trained and inspired generations of fellows and students.
His papers include but are not limited to: biographical documents, correspondence, notes, log books, research materials, publication files, grant materials, manuscripts, photographs, slides, reports, personnel information, tributes, awards, clippings and other documents.
Collection includes 1 folder of founding documents of the "Brady Long Rifles." In 1983 Donald Coffey created an open access discussion group on cancer research called "The Long Rifles." The name was chosen to highlight the cooperative spirit that volunteers exhibited during the Revolutionary War. The new Long Rifles banned together to fight cancer.
