This set of records, generated by the Office of the Dean during his tenure from 1929 to 1953, consists of materials spanning the entire period of his deanship. They include correspondence files, department files, committee files, communications with professional associations, financial records, dean's reports, and medical faculty research grant and contract files. There are also a set of materials pertaining to the controversy surrounding using animals for medical research and education at Hopkins, including efforts to respond to anti-vivisection campaigns in Baltimore City.
The bulk of the collection comprises correspondence and accompanying documents. Materials include, among others, news clippings, meeting minutes and agendas, reports, grant applications, legislation, newsletters, curriccula vitae, and pamphlets.
