Moses Gellman

Moses Gellman was born in Richmond, Virginia. He received a BS from the University of Richmond in 1917 and an M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1921. He pursued his internship and residency training at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland from 1921-1923 followed by specialty training in orthopedic surgery at New York City's Hospital for Special Surgery (formerly the Hospital for Ruptured and Crippled Children). Returning to Baltimore, Gellman opened a private practice in orthopedic surgery. He joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine faculty in 1929 as a lecturer in orthopedic surgery, a position he held until his death. Gellman was also an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and served on the staff of several Baltimore hospitals. He was a member of many professional organizations including the Baltimore City Medical Society; Orthopedic Section, where he served as secretary from 1937 to 1939 and as president from 1939 to 1940 and from 1955 to 1956 . He was also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery as well as a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
