L. Allan Erskine
31 March 1912- 4 May 1980
Louis Allan Erskine was born in Holywood, County Down Northern Ireland. He received his A.B. from the Johns Hopkins University in 1933 and a M.D. in 1937 from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Erskine completed his surgical internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1938 with further training at Church Hospital. He was appointed as a surgical fellow at Johns Hopkins in 1939, researching the properties of preserved blood. Erskine served as a captain in the U.S. Army 39th General Hospital unit during World War II. He subsequently joined the staff of Palmerton Hosptial in Pennsylvania. He retired as chief surgeon of Palmerton Hospital in 1976.

Scope and Content
The L. Allan Erskine collection is primarily a photo collection with a few reprints and ephemera. A small postcard signed by William Osler and addressed to Walter Dandy postmarked December 5, 1918 is of particular interest.
