Katherine H. Borkovich was born in Monaca, Pennsylvania. An internist, cardiologist, and teacher, she was associated with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for more than fifty years. She received her B.S. in 1935 from Geneva College and her M.D. in 1939 from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Borkovich taught pulmonary hypertension and electrocardiology. She also taught physical diagnosis to female medical students at Johns Hopkins when such instruction was gender-segregated. Elected president of the Maryland Society of Internal Medicine in 1964, Borkovich became the first woman elected president of the Baltimore City Medical Society in 1972.
