The Walter L. Winkenwerder Collection spans his years at Johns Hopkins as a student, physician, instructor, and army officer. It consists of photographic prints, negatives, and film. The bulk of the material documents the 118th medical unit in Australia from May 1942 to September 1944. Images include group portraits (surgical staffs, nurses, commanding officers) as well as images of facilities (hospitals, hotels, tents, and bamboo huts) and base activities, both work and leisure. The collection also includes personal photographs (1920-1952) of Winkenwerder and his family, and a small number of negatives from his years at Beloit College. There is a complete listing of all images in the collection.
