Olitsky at the Rockefeller Institute, she was recognized by David Bodian and his Johns Hopkins University colleagues for her immunological studies with encephalitis viruses. In 1944, she joined Bodian's poliomyelitis laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health where she was actively involved in the landmark research on the pathogenesis and immunogenesis of experimental poliomyelitis. She married Joseph Mountain in 1949 and returned to New York in 1950. She continued research in microbiology at Columbia University and earned an M.S. in biostatistics there in 1961. Before her retirement in 1980, she worked for the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research as a consultant in biostatistics.
